For the month of October, I have challenged myself to participate in Tim Slade's monthly instructional design challenge and post about my progress once a week. This week I spent a lot of time reviewing the prompt and doing research on time management for remote workers. Tim provided some excellent starting resources and then I branched out to learn more on my own. Check out the comments for a pic of my brainstorm.
One of the biggest challenges I identified when diving into this project was the sheer volume of what the imaginary client was asking. If I were to create a training that covered everything, a learner would be online for 4 hours! So, I did what I would do in real life -- I talked to the "client" (Tim) and shared that I think we needed to focus in on one topic. Luckily he agreed and I was able to design my learning objectives about gaining balance when you feel like your to do list might end you.
So, here are the goals for the training I will create by the end of the month.
Learners will:
1. use email folders and online to-do list software to gain control of their tasks.
2. conduct a weekly "Meeting with Myself" to create a plan for the week and reduce the Sunday Scaries.
What do you think about these objectives? Do they seem important? How might you approach this task differently?
Next week I'll be discussing my planning process.
PS: Special thanks to Annie Valdes of Design Tugboat for the amazing coaching that is helping me focus on growing my elearning development skills. If you feel stuck in any aspect of your life, I highly recommend Annie's coaching.
